What Happen At Anfield?

The hope to complete the transfer of Robbie Keane from Tottenham had been still in the air. At the same time Benitez also want to have 19-year-old French striker David Ngog signed this week.

A £1.5million bid has been accepted by Paris St Germain, and the youngster could become Liverpool's fourth signing of the summer, after deals for Philipp Degen, Andrea Dossena and Diego Cavalieri.

Ngog is a cousin of former Newcastle defender Jean-Alain Boumsong. Born in the Parisian suburb of Gennevilliers, Ngog has come through the ranks at PSG and made his debut last season. Should the proposed deal go through as expected, Ngog will join up with his new team-mates after they have returned to Melwood on Wednesday.

Liverpool also snapped up teenagers Vincent Lucas Weijl and Nikola Saric recently, but while they are for Gary Ablett's reserve squad, Ngog has been earmarked for the first team.

With Keane an expected arrival following Peter Crouch's departure, Ngog's arrival could hasten the departure of Ukrainian striker Andriy Voronin.

Voronin has scored twice in three unbeaten pre-season friendlies but is interesting Hamburg and could go for £3million, to add further to Benitez's transfer kitty and the prospect of still adding Gareth Barry to the squad before the season starts.

Just How Thick Is Our Defence?

Almost a year of football was played at Anfield without our injured defender - Daniel Agger. But he's back now.

Liverpool played pre-season friendly last Saturday with a win over Tranmere Rovers by a goal to nil. The only goal of the match was scored by Israeli midfielder Yossi Benayoun.

Besides all the drama and hype, there's good news for Reds - Daniel Agger was back from his 10 months long injury nightmare. He's doing a fine job this time. Last season, we played almost all the match without Agger and the Danish defender's absence gave ageing Hyypia a chance to play. But from now on, the giant 35 years defender will have to fight for his first team place.

Agger's comeback means Benitez now have five center-backs to choose. Hyypia, Agger, Brazilian full-back Fabio Aurelio and the newly inducted duo Philipp Degan and Andrea Dossena. Let's hope there would be a good-strong competition between them that will give us trophy for this coming season.

New Keeper Arriving!

Liverpool are close to completing a £3million move for Palmeiras keeper Diego Cavalieri.

Sources in Brazil confirm the player completed his medical on Tuesday and a work permit has been acquired.

Cavalieri's agent, Juninho Parmigiani, told Brazilian media: "We will conclude everything soon. He has already had the necessary medical examinations, talked with some of his new team-mates and has been impressed by what Rafael Benitez had to say to him."

Palmeiras' sporting director, Toninho Cecilio, added: "I have spoken and he has completed the examinations and is very happy. There are some clauses still being discussed but nothing that can block the deal."

We have new signing!

Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez has signed promising Denmark Under-18 international Nikola Saric.

The 17-year-old former Herfolge player, who was born in Sarajevo, Bosnia, was recently on trial with Heerenveen.

Left-footed Saric, who has signed a three-year deal, can play on the left or right wing or as a central striker.

He told Herfolge's official website: "Of course, I want to join Liverpool FC.

"I will get to train with the big names over there and develop in the reserves. It is a tremendous chance for me and I am very happy.

"Since I feel the time is right and that I am mature enough for a new challenge, we have been waiting for the right club to come with an offer."

Degen completes Liverpool move

Swiss full-back Philipp Degen has officially completed his free transfer move to Liverpool.

Degen was available on a Bosman deal after opting against signing a new contract at Borussia Dortmund.

Liverpool confirmed in May that Degen was on his way to Anfield and the right-back signed his four-year contract on Thursday.

He was part of Switzerland's Euro 2008 squad and will vie with Alvaro Arbeloa and Steve Finnan for a starting spot next season.

At the time of the signing, Reds manager Rafa Benitez admitted it was important to pick up free transfers in order to use his money on other areas of the squad.

"Sometimes you can find these players on the market," said Benitez on the club's official website.

"When you find a player like him who costs no money it means you can use money for improving other parts of the squad.

"He is a good signing, a player of potential, who can help us improve in the wide areas."
